Location
This zone is located in the Sea of Cortez,
in the central part of the Sonora coast
and the great Islands of the California
Gulf area.

Limits
The limits of this biosphere reserve are the area
of the great Islands (Tiburon and San Esteban)
and the water between them, as well as the central
coast of the Sonora coast and minor islands (Turner
and Patos)
The
Seris
This area is inhabited by the Seri tribe which
is the most representative Indian tribe in the
State of Sonora. Many archeological sites can
be visited in this region that is open to the
travelers that want to learn about this antique
culture and its ways and tradition.
Flora
& Fauna
About 232 species of medicinal plants are found
in this area.
The marine vegetation is abundant, with the presence
of 63 species of macro seaweed.
This region is rich in littoral fish (halibut,
la curvina, cabrilla, mojarra, baquetas and sierra.)
The islands which compose the reserve have 31
species of reptiles and amphibians. The second
most diverse group of vertebrates are the birds,
with over 200 registered species including marine,
land, endemic and migratory birds.
Visiting
Visitors to the island require a permit, since
the area has been set aside as a breeding site
for bighorn sheep, mule deer and white-tailed
deer. |
