Location
Is Located South of the City of Alamos, Sonora,
and 30 miles away from Navojoa.
Two neighboring roads lead the way to the central
zones of protection. This is the only way to get
there. (Ask the locals for it)
Altitude
It goes from 984 feet to 1148 feet and up to 5576
feet in the Mountain Range of Alamos. In the Eastern
Sierra Madre Mountain Range it goes from 1640
to 8200 feet.
Suface
& Limits
This territory extends to 92,900 hectares which
includes the mountain ranges of Alamos, the Cuchujaqui
Creek on the East, and the beginning of the river
Basin of the Cuchujaqui Creek of the Eastern Sierra
Madre Mountain Range. On the North it is limited
by the City of Alamos and La Aduana village.
Climate
The region has two particular climates: a dry
temperate weather from mid October through June
and a wet humid tropical from July through mid
October. The months of November through February
temperature is in the day around the 80ºFs
and the nights in the 50ºFs.
History
This Natural Reserve for the protection of the
Alamos – Rio Cuchujaqui was declared by
President Ernesto Zedillo in 1996. This area of
200,000 acres takes in the Sierra de Alamos and
the upper drainage of the Rio Cuchujaqui. Most
of this reserve is Tropical Deciduous Forest,
Oak and Pine wilderness. The reserve was set aside
as an excellent example of Tropical Deciduous
Forest at its most northern limits.

reserve.
Flora
&Fauna
The region of Alamos is very important due to
its great biological diversity. Many of the species
found here are species that find their most southern
or northern limits in this region.
More than 400 species of birds have been recorded
from the coast into the foothills at Alamos.
