In 1673, Jesuit Missionary Alonso Victoria founded a town named San Idelfonso de Yecora.

Later, it was called La Trinidad until 1916 when they changed the name to Yecora. In 1930, it was incorporated to the municipality of Sahuaripa and reinstated on April 8th, 1935.
