Las Barajitas Canyon
Located 12 miles north of San Carlos, Las Barajitas
is a place hidden from the average San Carlos
tourists, and is home for three diverse and rare
ecosystems. It can only be reached by boat, and
here many Sonoran desert species of flora and
fauna are found in their natural state.
Considered a "sacred place" by the Seri
natives, Las Barajitas is an ideal place for nature

eco-tourism organization with offices in San Carlos,
Sonora. Visitors are taken to the marine where
they board a boat that takes them to the Canyon.

Activities

and visits to San Pedro Nolasco Island, a sanctuary
for sea lions. There are miles of trails to hike,
both guided and unguided, to study the bird, plant
and animal life of this unique ecosystem. There
is also an observatory to dig into the dark sky.
Scuba divers are delighted with two sunken vessels,
the ferry G.D.O. & the tuna boat Albatun,
in the bay in front of Las Barajitas, forming
an artificial reef to dive on.

Las Barajitas is composed of 2,000 acres of desert
and canyon and 2,200 yards of shore line on the
Sea of Cortez where three distinct ecosystems

the desert and sea blend at San Carlos, in where

its own security wall of rock about 1.5 meters
