Ciudad Obregon is the agricultural heart of Sonora in the fertile, well-irrigated Yaqui Valley. The main crops developed are wheat, beans, corn, and fruits.

Poultry farming, as well as cattle and pork raising are also very important for Ciudad Obregon’s economy.

The municipality also counts with an industrial park, called “El Dorado”, well equipped with basic infrastructure, and large employers such as Gamesa, Cervecería Modelo, Barcel, and maquiladoras like Yazaki and Digital Imaging.
