| The interior of the temple is
gorgeous, in the frontal part lays an altarpiece
beautifully carved which has niches with pointed
arcs and images of celestial personages.
Downtown
It shows a taste of the rustic downtown typical
of the colonial cities, full with stands of all
kinds, in where food, crafts, clothes, and almost
any thing is sold.
Palacio
de Gobierno (Government Palace)
The Government Palace was finished in 1896 with
its beautiful historic murals and the statues
of generals Ignacio Pesqueria and Garcia Morales,
located just in from of the gardens of Plaza Zaragoza
and the kiosk.
It was constructed originally to work as a municipal
house, and was inaugurated on September 10th,
1859. Nevertheless, in 1884 it happened to work
as palace of the Executive authority. It is one
of the most representative buildings of downtown;
it is constructed in two levels with rectangular
windows, rich adorned by forms and structures
typical of the postcolonial region architecture.
In the interior, its stairways and columns with
neoclassic style may be admired, worked by Yaqui
Indians, with stones obtained from the “Cerro
de la Campana” (Hill of the Bell), as well
as bronze sculptures of general Ignacio Pesqueira
and Jesus Garcia Morales, in the central patio.
Cerro
de la Campana
It is the maximum symbol of Hermosillo. This
name was given to it because of the metallic sound
produced by its rocks, and due to its shape appreciated
from east to west.
Museo
de Sonora (Sonora Museum)
Antique military penitentiary, today you can
observe there the history and culture of Sonora
.It was built by its own prisoners with the “Cerro
de la Campana” rocks.
The building design was made by Arthur F. Wrotnowski,
who was also the builder of the Government Palace
and the Guaymas penitentiary. The Wrotnowski designs
are based in the Italian renaissance palaces.
This building was inaugurated in 1907.
The building where this museum is established
and the installations of the National Institute
of Anthropology and History (INAH) functioned
as prison until the year of 1979. Its restoration
was carried out in 1981.
The museum is distributed in the low plant. There,
two temporary rooms of expositions are located
and the old cells are the precinct of the permanent
expositions. In them the original prison cells
can be observed. The museum counts with an archaeological
and historic collection related to the general
history of Sonora, which is described in a chronologic
way according to the main historic phases: pre-Hispanic,
colonial and independent. The exposition is preceded
by a brief overview of natural history.

auditoriums, school and tourist group attention.

y Biblioteca de la Universidad de Sonora (University
of Sonora’s Museum and Library)
During a lot of time, this building has been
one of the city’s distinctive symbols. It
was built inspired in the art deco style and can
be distinguished from the urbanity that surrounds
it by its sobriety and majesty. Is characterized
by its extensive stairs that conduct to a terrace;
in the interior is located a bronze sculpture
of Gral. Abelardo L. Rodriguez. The architectonic
design of this building is based on the Museum
of Art of Paris. The building also includes the
regional history and anthropology museum, the
archeology museum, the “Emiliana de Zubeldía
theatre”, and other University departments.
Casa
de la Cultura (Cultura House)
Casa de la Cultura is located in Vildósala
Boulevard. It counts with a room called Francisco
Eusebio Kino for temporary expositions of plastic
arts. Here are offered painting, dance, theater,
and music classes, as well as languages, silkscreen,
engraving and drawing. It has a library, a movie
theater, and shops.
Centro
de las Artes (Art’s Centre)
This modern building is the headquarters of an
important cultural center of the University of
Sonora. There is theater shop found, as well as
visual and plastic arts. Besides, it counts with
a temporary room for expositions of various themes.
Parque
Recreativo La Sauceda ("La Sauceda”
Recreational Park)
It was built in a zone of traditional recreation.
Considered the largest recreational center of
the northwest of Mexico thanks to the extensive
green areas that surround it, which are conditioned
with grills, tables and benches, child areas and
sport courts, La Sauceda results a very attractive
place for both, children and adults. It counts
with an area known as "Aquafantástico",
an extensive spa that has many pools, gigantic
toboggans, pool of waves, palm huts, and soda
fountains. Skate facilities and mechanic attractions
can’t also miss at La Sauceda. Finally,
La Burbuja Museo del Niño (The Bubble),
an interesting interactive museum for children
inside this park, similar to "El Papalote
Museum” in Mexico City, has many interesting
scientific and amusing activities to offer visitors.
Universidad
de Sonora (University of Sonora)
Founded in 1942 as Sonora’s Alma Mater,
the University of Sonora actually offers its service
to around 30,000 students from all parts of the
state, offering as well more than 30 mayors, post
grades, Masters and Doctorates.

These two churches are part of the architectural
buildings in the city of Hermosillo worth of being
visited and admired.
Centro
Ecológico de Sonora (Sonora’s Ecologic
Center)
Located at the south of the city, Centro Ecológico
de Sonora is a national park created to preserve
the natural wildlife of the region. With not too
expensive admissions, visitors may admire flora
and fauna of the state, and have an interesting
walk through its greenhouse, have some snacks
at the palm hut stands or find relevant information
at the library or video film room.
La
Pintada
La Pintada, located 56 km (35 miles) south of
the city, between Hermosillo and Guaymas is an
archeological site that was a refuge for Seri
and Pima Indians, where there are more than 1,000
“rupestre” paintings.
