Temple of Nuestra Señora
de la Concepción
Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción
is the greatest temple of ancient Alta Pimeria.
There were three churches constructed before the
actual one.
As said before, the original temple was destroyed
and a new temple was built in the year 1803. Today
this temple is surrounded by a great terrace that
carries the name of Father Kino. In one side of
the terrace you can see a big arch of brown quarry
that acts as an entrance to the terrace. The access
to the inside is restricted; the INAH authority
has to give an special permission to do so.
This temple is famous for a particular event
that took place in April 6th, 1857, when the town's
inhabitants, who locked themselves up in this
church, rejected a filibuster invasion lead by
the American Henry Alexander Crabb. The bullet
holes can still be seen on the Church walls. At
present, it is a cultural center with a small
museum and a large explanade in front.
Puerto Lobos
The territory of Caborca has more than 128.6

sports like fishing, hunting and other activities
may be practiced. The beaches that have an access
road are: Puerto Lobos, Estero Los Tanques, Poblado
El Desemboque, Los Dorados de Villa, Santo Tomás
y el Estero Las Salinas.
Puerto Lobos is the main coastal locality at
Caborca. This port has an infrastructure capable
of supporting commercial and sport fishing.
Synergetic Hunting is practiced in ranches that
surround this area.
Petroglifos (Paintings in stars)
There are around 200 places where this type of
art may be found in Caborca´s territory,
but the most visited because of its easiest access
are the ones in "San José" hill,
which is part of the rock group called “La
Proveedora.”
Places like "El Mójoqui", Lista
Blanca, Potrero de Balderrama, Rancho La Cueva,
Sierra del Alamo, Cerro "El Nazareno",
El Antimonio, Sierra La Basura, Sierra La Gamuza
and Santa Felícitas, and others, are also
interesting and of great historical importance.
The mines
There are some old towns in the region that once
were rich mines and today can be attractive destinations
for camping. Some of these places are: La Antimonia,
Juárez, Costa Rica, San Luisito, La Bonancita,
El Zoñi, and Santa Felicitas.
