Sonora is one
of the most important states in sport hunting,
that is because of its great variety of species
and natural resources.
There are about 3000 ranches with the required
installations and services in the different communities
where this sport is practiced.
There are species such as the white winged dove,
turkey, quail, 10 species of duck and 3 of geese.
The mule deer “Bura” of Sonora is
one of the main trophies to be taken. Also there
is squirrel, rabbit, jackrabbit, wildcat, wild
boar and cougar.
The hunting areas are nearby the cities in agricultural
zones with easy access.
Hunters can choose to stay in the city and go
hunting to the close locations, or to live the
adventure and stay at the ranch comfortable residence
that would easily be equipped with all the services,
facilities and assistance to provide real comfort
and fit any requirement.

THE
SONORAN BURA
To hunt a mule deer (bura) in Sonora is to pursue
one of one of the most prestigious trophies worldwide.
This deer’s antlers reach an opening of
35", and some are known to weigh over 200
pounds.
WHITE
TAIL DEER
These deer can be found in the mountain base at
the desert or up on the highest mountain points.
The hunting of these animals must be accompanied
by an experienced guide either on horse or by
foot.
This deer, noted by its big antlers, could possibly
win you a trip to the book of world records!
QUAIL
This species attracts many hunters and it is not
difficult to reach the hunting limit.
DUCK
AND GOOSE
The hunting of this specie is done under the expert
supervision of guides who know the hunting zones
which are found throughout the state of Sonora.
In our State there are 10 different species of
duck and 3 of goose.
WILD
TURKEY
This specie can be found in the mountains of Sonora.
Noted by its weight (25 to 30 pounds) and size,
once again the hunting of this animal is done
under supervision.

RAM
The wild ram of Sonora, is one of the four species
of sheep that exist in the desert, only found
on the mountain filled terrain located west from
our coast.

BOAR
The adult species reach a length of 80 and 90
centimeters. Its tail can be 3.5 to 4.5 cm and
its body weight 30 to 88 pounds. This animal is
found in most parts of the state; usually in company
of 14 to 50 of its own, either male or female.
About the Register of Cynegetic Identification
and Hunting Permissions
ARTICLE 12.- The Government Department
will grant Registrations for Cynegetic Identification
according to Article IX of the Procedures Manual
only to:
I.- National and foreign residents within national
territory, and to
II.- Foreigners who are not residents within national
territory.
ARTICLE 13.- The different types of permits that
can be granted by the Government Department according
to Articles X of the Procedures Manual are:
a).- Permits to hunt birds
b).- Permits to hunt mammals
Government offices will come
to agreement with third parties as long as they
comply with the Registration Cynegetic Identification,
hunting permits, the charges for hunting tags
and have paid for all of the above mentioned hunting
rights in compliance with the Federal Law of Rights
in Articles IX and X of the Procedures Manual.
ARTICLE 14.- A Revenue Stamp
can be used as a hunting permission as long as
they are in accordance with the Cynegetic Identification
and have been stamped by an authorized distributor
or with the official Government Department seal.
ARTICLE 15.- The Registration
of Cynegetic Identification and hunting permits
are personal and irreversible. The Department
will verify that the holders of the permits:
a).- Maintain in their possession the permits
at all times during the expedition along with
the permit for transporting weapons. These are
to be shown to the civil authorities or the military
service when so required.
b).- Agree that the permits are only to be used
exclusively to hunt that which has been previously
authorized by the judicial and administrative
agreements.
c).- Will not use the permits as a means of entering
into private property, communal communities without
previous consent given by the legitimate owner.
The Cynegetic Identification allows for one permission.
Another one can be renewed if expired, stolen
or lost.
ARTICLE 16.- When a written notice arrives at
the Department informing that a Cynegetic Identification
was stolen or lost, the holder will not be charged
with misuse. However, a renewal will be revoked.
There will not be no refunds for hunting permits
which have not been used by the holders.
ARTICLE 23 .- The granting of
permits for hunting of birds and mammals will
be according to the limited number allowed by
the Government Department.
ARTICLE 26.- At the time of the expedition the
seal on the permit will indicate what animal you
can hunt.
CHAPTER II
Definitions
ARTICLE 3.- According to the
terms agreed on, its understood that:
I.- Rings: The non commercial metallic marks,
handed out by the Government Department to those
with permits are for the capture of songbirds
or showbirds with the purpose of placing them
on the capture thereby identifying and granting
legal possession.
III.- Copper Bands: These adhesive bands handed
out by the Department, are placed on the object
of charge to protect your hunting permit or Cynegetic
Identification, to guarantee that it was legally
hunted, and to allow exportation of the capture
or trophy. These bands are to be used only once.
VII.- The daily hunting limit: The maximum number
of captures of one specie or of a group are determined
by the authorities on a daily basis according
to the limited number allowed.
XIV.- Hunting Organizer: A person registered in
the census of Cynegetic Organizers, lends his
services to organize different activities that
have to do with hunting.
XV.- Hunting Permits: This document in the shape
of a sticker and attached to the cynegetic ID
permits the owner to carry on with the hunt of
different species, which are determined every
day. These stickers must be in the hunter’s
possession at all times on the expedition.
CHAPTER IV
Hunting Organization
ARTICLE 37.- The hunting organization designates
an experienced hunting guide who will accompany
the foreigner during the expedition within the
national territory.
At the end of the season the hunting organizers
present a report to the government of services
rendered according to the 6th article of section
12 of the Procedures Manuel.
CHAPTER V
Hunting methods and practices
ARTICLE 38.- To practice hunting as a sport it
is legal to use: rifles, shotguns and rifles of
black gunpowder allowed by the legal authorities
in weapons and fire arms. Bows and arrows, crossbows,
hunting dogs and birds of prey are also permitted.
The use of firearms will be subject to the following
rules without exception, of the Federal Laws for
Firearms and explosives:
a).- To hunt birds, a shotgun is required. Firearms
must be pointed to the sky, in case of a necessary
second shot, the capture must be on the ground.
Steel ammunition must be used in underwater bird
hunting.
b).- No hunting is allowed with rifles shorter
than 22" caliber, except for the hunting
of small mammals.
